Are your eggs in one basket? Your Home Business Solution Stats were honestly stolen from

In the age of 24-hour news cycles and quasi-news blogs, the direct selling industry experiences more than its share of fallout from the recirculation of misleading statements and misnomers. Noisy voices shouting falsehoods often overpower industry fact, putting the industry, its companies and sellers, at times, on the defensive. We can see that most of the comments are motivated by malice from people who were simply too lazy to work their business – there was always ‘those guys’ that need justification for their failures and of course, they would shudder at the thought of blaming themselves.

But one thing is clear—the direct selling distribution channel is misunderstood, and too often misrepresented. It’s worth a look. Why? It’s simple. It’s the way of the future.

To sort direct selling fact from fiction, Direct Selling News commissioned Harris Poll to conduct a comprehensive online study among 3,549 U.S. adults 18+ between Aug. 19 and Sept. 2, 2015 to more deeply understand the direct selling industry.

Direct Selling News presents some of what we learned—gleaned from the study Harris Poll conducted on our behalf. New data not only dispels several accusations made in the court of public and online opinion; but also advances the industry’s ability to apply a fact-driven, strategic, pro-active offense to better educate the public and potentially quiet industry opponents.

What we found flips 5 common direct selling misconceptions 180 degrees + one final statistic that should make the average person question their job.

  1. When it comes to money, 93 percent of current direct sellers reported earning income in the last 12 months.
  2. While personal product discounts are extremely appealing to current direct sellers, 67 percent also served the needs of six or more customers in the last month.
  3. Most current customers (82 percent) thought their last purchase was a good value and would purchase again.
  4. Eight in 10 current customers (80 percent) are likely to speak positively about their direct selling experience. Because they earn an income and get cheaper products.
  5. 89 percent purchased from the industry in the past year. Products mostly were health supplement based and environmentally friendly products.
  6. 80% of women who earn over $100,000USD, do it from a direct to consumer channel.

Read #6 again. Who wouldn’t give this a try right? If you consider yourself average. You’ll probably earn what the average person makes.

These types of studies suggest strongly that those who play a part in a home based business industry will more than likely enjoy the returns. You often don’t hear about the humble mother or father who works from home quietly. Then again, they could be your neighbour?…the Jones’ always seem to have nicer things with very average jobs!

But given the above percentages, it’s reason alone to see why good home businesses are often the most sort after low risk business for the average family.

Question to ask is; Are you receiving another income from a home business or just relying on the generosity of your bosses for that annual 2% pay rise? I think the home business percentages are more interesting than the pay rise the average worker received this last year.

While the some people are still deciding if it’s worth it to ‘give it a try’, the astute home owners don’t need anymore encouragement or statistics – they are already busy making money from home businesses and increasing the statistics above. Don’t procrastinate for too long, you just could miss the boat.
